How to view the solar eclipse safely
Without protective glasses
If you don't have eclipse glasses, there are a few ways to view the solar eclipse safely.
Projection method
One way is to use the projection method. To do this, you will need a white piece of paper or cardboard and a small hole in the center. Hold the paper or cardboard in front of you and face the sun. The light from the sun will pass through the hole and project an image of the eclipse onto the paper or cardboard.
Solar eclipse viewer
Another option is to use a solar eclipse viewer. These viewers are made of a special material that blocks out harmful UV rays. You can purchase solar eclipse viewers online or at some science museums.
Indirect viewing
Finally, you can also view the solar eclipse indirectly. To do this, find a shaded area and look at the eclipse through a tree or building. The leaves or branches will block out most of the harmful UV rays.
Safety precautions
It is important to take precautions when viewing the solar eclipse, even if you are using protective glasses. Do not look directly at the sun for more than a few seconds at a time. Take breaks every few minutes to give your eyes a rest. If you experience any eye pain or discomfort, stop viewing the eclipse and seek medical attention.
