Brad Treliving: A Look at His Career and Upcoming NHL Draft

Early Life and Playing Career

Brad Treliving was born on August 18, 1969, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. He played junior hockey with the Kamloops Blazers of the Western Hockey League (WHL) before being drafted 63rd overall by the Calgary Flames in the 1987 NHL Entry Draft. Treliving played five seasons in the NHL with the Flames, Boston Bruins, and Phoenix Coyotes before retiring in 1996.

Front Office Career

After retiring from playing, Treliving moved into the front office, working as an assistant general manager for the Flames from 2002 to 2013. In 2013, he became the general manager of the Calgary Flames, a position he held until 2022.

Toronto Maple Leafs Era

In 2022, Treliving joined the Toronto Maple Leafs as their general manager. His first NHL Draft with the Maple Leafs will be in 2023, where they hold the 28th overall pick.

2023 NHL Draft

Treliving has stated that he expects the 2023 NHL Draft to be a quiet one for the Maple Leafs, as they have a strong roster and are focused on free agency. However, he did say that they would be looking to add a "gem of a player" with their 28th overall pick.

Contract Status

Treliving's contract with the Maple Leafs expires after the 2023-24 season. He has indicated that he would like to remain with the team long-term, but a contract extension has not yet been announced.
