Israel won't end war for deal to free all hostages
PM's aide said to tell families
Israel will not end its military offensive in Gaza to secure the release of all the Israelis held hostage by Hamas, an aide to the Israeli prime minister has told the families of the captives, according to Israeli media reports.
Ehud Barak, the Israeli defence minister, reiterated Israel's refusal to negotiate with Hamas over a ceasefire.
He told Israeli public radio that any deal would have to be unconditional, meaning Hamas would have to release the captives without Israel having to withdraw its forces from Gaza. Earlier, Hamas's exiled leader, Khaled Meshaal, said his group would not discuss a deal unless Israel first stopped its offensive.
