F1 Silverstone: Verstappen on pole again as McLaren impress
Max Verstappen continued his dominance of qualifying in 2023 by securing pole position for the British Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari's Carlos Sainz.
The Dutchman, who has now taken five poles in a row and seven for the season, was in imperious form throughout qualifying at Silverstone.
He set the pace in all three segments of qualifying, and his final lap of 1:17.020 was enough to give him a comfortable margin of victory over Sainz.
Sainz, who had been quickest in Friday's practice sessions, could not match Verstappen's pace in qualifying but will be pleased with his second place on the grid. His teammate Charles Leclerc will start third, ahead of Sergio Perez in the other Red Bull.
The biggest surprise of qualifying came from McLaren, who put both of their cars into the top six. Lando Norris will start fifth, ahead of teammate Daniel Ricciardo in sixth.
