Early Life and Career

Gregor Poklukar was born on October 22, 1995, in Kranj, Slovenia. He began skiing at a young age and quickly developed a passion for biathlon, a sport that combines cross-country skiing and rifle shooting. By the age of 16, Poklukar was competing in international junior competitions.

In 2013, Poklukar made his World Cup debut at the age of 17. He quickly established himself as a rising star, finishing in the top 10 in several races during his first season. In 2015, he won his first World Cup race, a sprint event in Hochfilzen, Austria.

Olympic Success

Poklukar made his Olympic debut at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. He competed in three events, finishing 15th in the individual, 19th in the sprint, and 13th in the relay.

At the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang, South Korea, Poklukar won a bronze medal in the mixed relay, along with teammates Jakov Fak, Urška Poje, and Teja Gregorin. He also finished fifth in the individual, sixth in the sprint, and seventh in the pursuit.

World Championship Success

In addition to his Olympic success, Poklukar has also achieved great success at the Biathlon World Championships. He has won a total of four medals, including two gold medals in the mixed relay (2019 and 2021) and two bronze medals in the individual (2019 and 2020).

Poklukar is known for his exceptional shooting skills and his strong endurance on the cross-country ski track. He is a versatile athlete who can compete well in all four biathlon disciplines: individual, sprint, pursuit, and mass start.
